Alexander R. M. Boyle retired in 2009 as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chevy Chase Bank, a position he held for over 25 years. Prior to beginning service in this position, Mr. Boyle was the President and a member of the Board of Directors of Government Services Savings and Loan, Inc. from 1975 until its merger with Chevy Chase Bank in 1985. He is also a Trustee of the B. F. Saul Employees Profit Sharing Retirement Trust. Mr. Boyle has served as a director of the U. S. League of Savings Institutions, Chairman of the Maryland League of Financial Institutions and as a Director of the American Bankers Association. He is currently a director of the Maryland Bankers Association. During 2005 and 2006, he served a two year term on the Thrift Institutions Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board. He is a member of the Economic Club of Washington and serves as a Director of the Montgomery College Foundation and as a Director of Neediest Kids, Inc, a prominent Washington area charitable organization.
Prior to relocating to the Washington area from New York City in 1975, Mr. Boyle served as Vice President-Finance of the Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics Company. Elizabeth Arden was acquired by the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company in 1971.
Mr. Boyle is a 1955 graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. He graduated from Yale University in 1959 with a BA degree in economics and from the Harvard Business School in 1961 with an MBA emphasizing finance and accounting.
Mr. Boyle is married to Elizabeth Roberts Boyle, who is originally from Memphis, Tennessee. He has two married children, Alexander Leland Boyle of Washington D.C. and Greer Boyle Thornton of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. Mr. & Mrs. Boyle reside in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
