Washington, D.C. – Today, the American Security Project (ASP) welcomed Dr. Evelyn Farkas, former Executive Director of the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Prevention and Terrorism, as an Adjunct Fellow to the American Security Project. In response, ASP Executive Director Jim Ludes released the following statement:

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Dr. Farkas, and welcome her extensive background on issues related to Afghanistan, Pakistan, counterterrorism and special operations, Asia Pacific foreign and defense policy, and non-proliferation issues related to North Korea and Pakistan. As a former staffer on the Senate Armed Services Committee, former Executive Director of the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, and Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor of International Relations with the U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College, she has unique insight into defense and military policy, particularly as it relates to countries with nuclear capabilities.”

The American Security Project (ASP) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy research and education initiative dedicated to fostering knowledge and understanding of a range of national security and foreign policy issues. It is organized around the belief that honest public discussion of national security requires an informed citizenry—one that understands the dangers and opportunities of the twenty-first century and the spectrum of available responses. ASP was formed to help Americans—from opinion leaders to the general public—understand how national security issues relate directly to them, and to explain challenges and threats in a way that spurs constructive action.
