Kathleen (Kate) Hammerberg is an Associate Research Analyst at the Center for Naval Analysis in Arlington, VA. Interested in a wide-range of functional security issues, Kate has a background in political science, international affairs, and political psychology. She holds a Master’s degree from the George Washington University, where she conducted research on the psychology of radicalization and women in non-state armed groups. Kate was one of the Elliott School’s funded field research fellows, an Elliott School Merit Fellow, and a recipient of President Barack Obama’s National Public Service Award. Prior to joining CNA, Kate worked on research and policy issues for RAND Corporation, the Gabonese government, the Department of State, and the U.S. Navy.

Hailing from South Carolina, Kate played rugby for the University of South Carolina and remains involved in the rugby community through a coaching program with Washington DC Youth Rugby.  Thanks to rugby, Kate met her wonderful husband, Craig, who she lives happily with in Washington, DC.
