Expertise: US national security strategy, arctic security, military history

Joel Petersen is a master’s candidate in Security Policy Studies at the George Washington University, Elliot School of International Affairs.  He focuses on US National Security.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, where he majored in both Political Science and History while taking part in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, a division of the Honors College.  His studies focused on military history, causes of war and grand strategy in addition to seminars on Middle East culture and security.

Born in New Mexico, but raised across the Midwest and Texas, Joel is a fan of all manner of outdoor activities, whether it be hiking, skiing, or mountain biking.  His goal is to one day visit every US National Park.  In his free time Joel enjoys running and reading history.
