ASP Chair of the Business Council, Dante Disparte, quoted in the Christian Science Monitor on post-Maria recovery in Puerto Rico
On September 26th, 2017, Chair of Business Council for American Security, Dante Disparte, was quoted in an article in the Christian Science Monitor covering the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, the difficulties being faced, and the need for a stronger response from Washington. In the article, Disparte is cited on the difficulties to recovery posed by Puerto Rico’s status as neither a US state or an independent country. He asserts that there needs to be less of a focus on domestic political disputes in Washington, and far more of a focus on the ongoing human tragedy currently occurring on US soil.
While reinforcing that responding to the needs of Puerto Ricans and ensuring public safety is the top priority, Disparte is further quoted on the opportunities presented by the hurricane recover to revitalize Puerto Rico economy and infrastructure going forward. He elaborates that “For this to be an opportunity requires two things: When cleaning up the debris of this natural calamity we also need to clear the debris of policies that have been holding back the island for decades… And we need to see that a much stronger and more diversified economy can emerge.”
