The American Security Project was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Secretary of State General Colin Powell. An extraordinary public servant, a soldier-stateman who embodied the American dream. Powell was a rare American figure who transcended party lines, leading with humility, kindness and wisdom.

Governor Christine Todd Whitman, chairperson of the American Security Project Board of Directors said: “I’m heartbroken. Colin Powell was a wonderful person, public servant and friend. We did so much together in our various roles that it’s hard to imagine not seeing him again. My prayers go out to Alma, his family, and to all whose lives he touched.”

Brigadier General Stephen Cheney, USMC (ret.), President of the American Security Project, stated: “General Powell represented everything that the American Security Project stands for – one who preferred diplomacy to war and who steadfastly stood up for our troops and diplomats. A tragic loss for our country and the world.”
