Join ASP and our panelists in a discussion about the next generation of energy technology and climate policy.

 

Fusion energy is real, and it is happening now. Through the cooperation of national and international governments, universities and organization, we are seeing the safest and cleanest form of energy becoming a global reality. As with biofuels, renewables and other energy technologies, fusion energy funding is also in dire need of assistance.

Our panelists will discuss how fusion energy works, what makes it the safest and cleanest form of energy that we can pursue, how government and private sector investment is making it a viable energy option, and the possible timeframes for “plugging into the grid.”

 

Speakers

Chair: Kate Ling

Kate LingKatherine Ling is the Technology and Innovation Reporter for Greenwire, the flagship publication of Environment and Energy Publishing LLC. She covers energy research and development, energy policy, Congress, the Energy Department and other relevant federal agencies. Her work has also appeared in the New York Times, Scientific American, Greeley Tribune and The Daily Herald. She graduated with a B.A. in Humanities from Yale University and M.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

 

Panelist: Andrew Holland

Andrew Holland  is the American Security Project’s Senior Fellow for Energy and Climate. He is a Washington-based expert on energy, climate change, and infrastructure policy. Prior to moving into the Think Tank world, he was a Legislative Assistant on Energy, Environment, and Infrastructure for United States Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska from 2006 through 2008.  He also has experience working in the US House of Representatives for the House Ways and Means Committee and the Office of Congresswoman Roukema. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Strategy and Economics from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and a  Bachelor’s Degree in History and Economics from Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

Panelist: Michael Delage

MichaelMichael is an engineer and experienced technology entrepreneur with a career spent developing complex technologies and bringing them to market. His expertise lies in technology strategy and innovation, systems engineering, product management, partnerships and joint development programs, and founding, building, and growing new technology companies. Prior to joining General Fusion in 2010, Michael co-founded and spent seven years building Energate Inc. into one of the leading residential demand response technology companies in North America. Under Michael’s leadership, Energate secured partnerships with industry champions and pioneered many of the technologies and standards to integrate residential energy management into the smart grid. Earlier in his career, Michael worked in the aerospace industry as a systems and design engineer on technologies from microsatellites to the robotic systems on the International Space Station, where hardware he designed continues to operate today. Michael holds a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics and an M.B.A. for Science and Technology from Queen’s University.

  1. The US is giving away its nuclear technology to those who want to use it via GE-Hitachi, Westinghouse-Toshiba and others. Oak Ridge is giving all its Thorium data to China to for them to develop the Thorium Molten Salt Breeder. The US continues to act as a spoiler for the ITER Fusion project while Russia and China accelerate their own Fusion efforts using accumulating ITER technology.
    Meanwhile, the US sits on piles of spent nuclear fuel with no plan to deal with it. You have turned down the excellent GE-Hitachi plan to eliminate it all by recycling through a fleet of S-PRISMS and get on the path for complete energy independence for the US for thousands of years.
    All these nuclear systems can eliminate US Coal or equivalent gas by 2050 with 150 safe reactor sites and 12 Recycling plants, a miniscule footprint on land and sea.
    Windmills are old tech. China, with US help, is best at commodity markets.
    The US has lost the plot, the world nuclear energy market, effective control of carbon emissions, and American energy security.
