On February 12th, American Security Project’s Chief Operating Officer Andrew Holland testified before the Senate Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. His testimony focused on the national security implications of climate change. Hawaii Public Radio picked up his testimony in a piece by Ryan Finnerty.

Holland’s testimony emphasized the ‘threat multiplier’ effects of climate change on issues including mass migration from Central America, water security in the middle east, and flooding risks in southeast Asia.

In his closing remarks, Holland asserted that there are no security solutions in a world that doesn’t address climate change, going so far as to say

“A world of drastically changed food supplies, sea levels, and water availability would be a world that would be beyond the capability of global military forces to secure”.
