Maurielle Stewart is currently serving as a Special Assistant to NASA’s General Counsel, a politically appointee position. Prior to her service to the Obama Administration, she served as a Constituent Liaison for Democratic Minority Whip Congressman Steny Hoyer for almost 4 years. During that time, Maurielle became a professional problem solver as she worked with constituents guiding them through the channels of the federal government to find resolutions to their problems.

In addition to her role on Team Hoyer, Maurielle also took up the mantle of public service to become the youngest current member of the Cheverly Town Council. After completing her two-year term as Vice-President of Communications with the Prince George’s County Young Democrats, Maurielle ran for Town Council to continue her civic service. With this elected position, Maurielle brings a fresh, new perspective to the Council as she strives to serve with transparency, inclusion, and collaboration. She feels fortunate to live in a town that is such a gemstone of diversity and is honored to give back through her new role.
Maurielle’s affection for public service has always been buttressed by her passion for domestic and international politics; seeds of interest that were planted at a young age as a result of learning about government and by traveling to 25 countries throughout the Caribbean, North America, Europe, and Africa. The marriage of those two interests inspired her work on local political campaigns while always balancing that perspective with the greater political climate internationally.
Maurielle was born in Washington, D.C. Her mother, Elizabeth, and her father, Maurice, both hailed from Philadelphia, P.A. and made a life in Maryland where they worked in the finance industry and for the Department of Education, respectively. They instilled a spirit of open-mindedness and hard work that Maurielle still carries with her today.
