Jamie Shufflebarger is a multilateral affairs officer in the Office of UN Political Affairs, located in the Bureau of International Organizations at the U.S. Department of State. Working with the U.S. Mission to the UN, she negotiates resolutions involving Europe in the UN Security Council and other UN fora, including peacekeeping missions and political issues in Cyprus, Ukraine, Bosnia, Georgia, and Mediterranean operations.

A career Foreign Service Officer, Jamie focuses on political and multilateral affairs, serving abroad in Ankara, Turkey and Islamabad, Pakistan. In Turkey, she advised the Ambassador and Washington on Turkish foreign policy, including its European Union membership process, and reported on human rights, particularly focusing on the Syrian refugee and humanitarian crises. In Pakistan, she served as a deputy consular chief with a counterterrorism and homeland security nexus. This spring, Jamie will join the Deputy Secretary of State’s staff as the Special Assistant for International Organizations and African Affairs.

Prior to working for the State Department, Jamie was an editor and reporter with The Atlantic’s Hotline, a daily political magazine covering American elections and congressional affairs. Jamie graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, grew up in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and was born in Columbus, Ohio.
