Adel El-Adawy’s research focuses on civil-military relations and the U.S.-Egyptian relationship.

He was in Egypt during the 2013 anti-Muslim Brotherhood protest and returns frequently to conduct firsthand interviews with the leaders in Egypt’s government, military, political parties, media, and civil society.  Previously he also held positions at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and the Middle East Institute (MEI).

He holds a B.A. from the College of Wooster and master’s in political science from American University in Washington. He is fluent in Arabic and German and speaks basic Swedish.
